| Here's something you'll never read in The Drudge Report: Bill Clinton Is More Popular Than Ronnie Reagan! by Jeff Koopersmith TUESDAY, Nov.2, 1999 -- ELECTION DAY -- NEW YORK (APJP) -- Okay. So you thought I was going to give you some good advice today, Election Day.
Well, I'm not. I'm still trying to decide whether to elect my friend, a Republican, as the Mayor of the small beach town I live in during the summer, or to bring in a Democrat who looks like a counter man at Chuck E. Cheese. All I can say is vote, and vote often today. Hopefully, it will be rude awakening time for the GOP.
By the way, can anyone tell me just who that ass Chris O'Reilly (who hosts something called The Oh, Really? Factor on the FOX Neofascist Propaganda Cable Channel) is? Should that guy be put in a cage or what? I don't think I've ever seen a more repulsive human being on television -- and that's saying something, having withstood John McLaughlin, Bob Novak and George Will all these years. It isn't just his style (early 1928 Himmler), it's his entire presence. If you know something about him, drop me a line at mac@americanpolitics.com.
The big news this morning is the latest CBS NEWS POLL -- which shows President Clinton's approval rating HIGHER than the all-but-worshipped-as-a-God-by-GOP-kneelers Ronald Reagan!
Now, I must tell you that I loved Reagan -- and believe it or not I worked for him in all four campaigns, including his first for Governor of the Golden State when I was still racing skateboards down Bel Air driveways in the fog. So don't get me wrong. I still write to Reagan -- just a little note now and then which I hope someone reads to him or, hopefully, he reads himself on good days. Reagan was the perfect President. He didn't do anything rash. He allowed others to make all decisions. He played the role of King of America with such aplomb that he deserved an Oscar, and the love and respect of all of us.
Show me one -- even one -- politician today that comes close, and I'll buy you a lunch at Spago. ...the one in Malibu, of course!
But Bill Clinton is just the opposite as Commander-in-Chief. He is a trouble maker, a Huck Finn, and a man with a penchant for the ladies. Sounds like the ideal American, doesn't it? Well, it turns out that America agrees!
Not only did Clinton get a thumbs up from a whopping 37% of conservatives (!), but 52% of Americans think Clinton has made the USA a better place.
A mere 14%, represented best by the likes of Pat Buchanan, Bob Barr, Henry Hyde and Ken Starr, thought the President make our nation a "worse place." Ha, ha, ha, ha -- and how could that be? I don't know, I guess they blame him personally for Columbine, rapes, drug use and women who cheat on their husbands.
And get this: 61% said that the President had accomplished most of what he set out to do in 1992!
This poll doesn't bode well for the Elephants today. Most of the public seems to be happy with Clinton. But leave it to CBS to ask about Clinton's "failures." Surprise: all the conservatives (about 20%) said "dishonesty and corruption," which should get the RNC PR people fired; and 17% (the Bible-beaters) said his biggest failure was Monica Lewinsky. Well, I agree with that. He did fail to keep her mouth shut.
By the way, Hillary didn't do too badly in this poll either! |
