| for Sunday, December 19, 1999 Jesus, Bombs and Catfights! by The Editors Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999 -- New York/Washington, DC (APJNS) -- The pundits made a last-minute big deal over the arrest of one Ahmed Rassem, a 32-year-old Algerian man allegedly attempting to bring bomb-making materials (including nitrogen compounds and timers) into the United States through Canada -- making millennial terrorism fears topic one on many of the pundit shows. Other favorite topics included George Bush's "Jesus" moment and a story from yesterday's Washing-Quinn Post claiming that the Clintons would seek reimbursement for the legal expenses they have incurred since the beginning of the Ken Starr Witch Hunt. Funny how not one of the pundits made mention of the fact that this story was leaked by someone close to the Independent Counsel. And there was practically not a word on the real news to emerge from the Linda Tripp trial this week: an affidavit from a member of the prosecution team stating that two of Starr's senior deputies, knowing that Michael Isikoff of Newsleak magazine was eager to get his hands on a Tripp tape, handed over one of the tapes to Tripp's then-lawyer in the presence of a lawyer tied to the Paula Jones defense team. The tape somehow ended up with Isikoff in a matter of hours, if not minutes. Obviously, evidence of conduct that could get four lawyers tied to the attempt to oust Clinton stripped of their right to practice law -- or possibly charged with felony misconduct -- just is not worthy of discussion, especially if it might damage relations with the ex-Starr office. Here's the way it went:
