Ralph Nader's Dirty Money
Why Won't the Rainforest Action Network Condemn Him Over It?
by Tamara Baker
Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 -- SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA (AmpolNS) -- The Rainforest Action Network has led the charge in attacking Al Gore over his mother's having (in a blind trust, which cannot be touched by anyone) stock in Occidental, an oil company the RAN has targeted ostensibly because of its treatment of indigenous tribes, but more likely because it is the least powerful oil company around and therefore easier to attack (as opposed to the real enviro-rapists, which all are Dubya's buddies).
However, the RAN does NOT go after Ralph Nader, even though Ralph Nader HIMSELF has chosen to invest nearly $250,000 in RAN's biggest foe: the Fidelity Magellan Fund. As Salon's Jake Tapper notes, Nader refuses to disinvest his money, even after repeatedly being urged in private to do so by RAN.
Fidelity owns several million shares in Occidental, as well as millions of shares in companies such as Halliburton and Enron (both Bush-friendly corporations), as well as dozens of other companies of the sort that Ralph has repeatedly attacked and promised never to support with his investment dollars.

Why don't you call the Rainforest Action Network and ask them why they aren't publicly hectoring Ralph Nader the same way they are attacking Al Gore?
