Why I Love Bill Clinton, Reason #3567348764
Yet Another Story You Won't See on MSNBC
Plus -- Selective Reporting Example #9647849867: Why No Uproar Over Trent's Threat to Sic the IRS on the NAACP?

Thursday, July 12, 2001 -- SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA -- While surfing Bartcop's site today, I ran across this lovely little URL:
http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/Northern_Ireland/Story/0,2763,519375,00.html
Click on that URL, and it'll take you away to a story that no American broadcast or cable network will touch. In fact, I doubt that any of the self-alleged "major" newspapers will pick it up. Even the New York Daily News, the leading paper of the burg where Bill has his offices, probably will ignore it.
Why? Because it shows that President Clinton (as opposed to his fraudulent "successor" over at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue) has the enduring respect -- and in many cases, the enduring affection -- of his statesman-peers around the world.
For the link-allergic, I will say merely this: The deadlock over peace negotiations in Northern Ireland has gotten so bad that both sides have asked Bill Clinton to help do what he has done so many times before and to get things going again.
I damned near broke down and cried when I read that article.
First off, it shows that Bill Clinton, our last real President, is still -- despite the 24/7 pounding that has yet to cease even after the US GOPMedia installed their own Usurper Boy last January -- ready, willing and able to be a public servant, and to tackle the toughest jobs.
Second off, it shows (again!) that, despite the US GOPMedia's unceasing efforts to portray Bill Clinton as a selfish headline-and-money-grabbing egomaniac, the rest of the world knows better -- and isn't afraid to say so.
Bill Clinton, since leaving office, has spent the better part of his time doing jobs that his most vitriolic critics would flee from in terror. He has spent many weeks in India working tirelessly on the behalf of earthquake victims. He has raised money for countless charitable causes. He even was called in by Usurper Boy to talk to the Chinese so we could get our spy plane back, when it was obvious that the Cheney-Card bunch wasn't getting anywhere with their passive-aggressive nonsense.
And now, when Northern Ireland is again at the end of its rope, he's been asked to go over there one more time and work his magic yet again.
It's as if the nations of the world are making a concerted effort to ignore the Cheney-Card Administration and are dealing with Bill as if he were still at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Bill, I love you. You will always be my President.
If y'all remember, one of the things the Flying Monkey Right (thanks to Mike Malloy at http://www.mikemalloy.net for that description) never failed to holler about was their accusation that Evil Bill Clinton Used The IRS Against His Enemies.
Once again, the FMR is doing some serious projection here -- "projection" being the psychiatric term for when you accuse another person/entity of something you yourself either have done, or want to do. (Remember Nixon's Enemies List?) If Clinton were really using the IRS to nail his political enemies, he'd do it the smart way and hammer his foes' major donors. But last I heard, the CEOs of Amway and GE and Enron and Duke Energy are still free men.
Meanwhile, the GOP has decided to go after the NAACP for daring to exercise its First Amendment rights. Since they can't sue for libel, they're threatening to do exactly what they have done in the past -- and what they have loved to falsely accuse Bill Clinton of doing: They plan to use the IRS to bludgeon a perceived enemy into submission.
However, the GOP made a major "Oooooops" when implementing this latest little bit of hypocritically heinous behavior: They let Trent Lott make the official announcement.
You remember Trent Loot (er, I meant "Lott"... no, I didn't), right? Former Senate Majority Leader, worked with the most racist Dixiecrats around -- until they all became Republicans when Nixon's racist "Southern Strategy" brought the South into the GOP fold.
You know the guy? Active member of the Council of Conservative Citizens (what the infamous White Citizens Council, the upscale 60's version of the Klan, evolved into) -- so much so that he wrote columns for their monthly mouthpiece, The Informer.
This is the man the GOP picked to sic the IRS on the NAACP.
Jeeze Louise, Pubbies! I know you guys are trying to shore up your racist base, but you have to remember that you still have to speak in code -- even many Republicans can't stomach openly-expressed racism.
Or is it that you know that your coddled press stenographers will ignore even the worst of your faux pas?
