- GOP mayor of Waterbury, Connecticut Busted for Sex with Minors
by Tamara Baker
July 27, 2001 -- SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA (APJP) -- If the mayor of a large East Coast city were to be busted for enticing children to have sex with him, do you think this would be more newsworthy than the disappearance of a Washington intern?
Now we have here exactly what we don't have in the Condit case: firm evidence that a crime of the most heinous sort was committed -- and, if the police are to be believed, with multiple victims.
So why isn't Chris Matthews trumpeting this story?
Why isn't FOX News all over this story?
Why aren't the TV newscasts talking about this story?
Why, in fact, was Buzzflash the first national news source to break the story outside of Connecticut?
Sigh... I don't have to tell you why, dear reader. Surely you already know:
It's because the mayor is a Republican.
Here's the original Hartford Courant link and a brief excerpt therefrom:
Where Is the Outrage?
by Dave "Doctor" GonzoFriday, July 27, 2001 (APJP) -- Okay, so in the case of one Philip Giordano, the answer is wholly expected: nowhere to be found, at least in the GOP-worshiping corporate press.
And it becomes all the more embarrassing for the whores in the mega-merged media when you come across a fact found in a Hartford Courant follow-up that hit the press after Tamara's article landed in the editorial e-box:
"The charges referred to one child, but sources said Giordano's alleged sexual misconduct involved two girls, 9 and 11."
Good grief. It doesn't get much sadder than that.
But don't expect much outrage from the "free press" -- after all, a cute and mysteriously missing intern who carried on an affair with a studly Congressman is a lot more palatable to news editors. Mystery, glamour, boffo ratings.
'Nuff said.
Mayor Philip Giordano of Waterbury was arrested this morning on federal charges of using an interstate facility to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity, and conspiracy to use an interstate facility to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
He is being held without bail.
Each count is punishable by up to five years in prison.
FBI Special Agent Michael Wolf said there were multiple victims under the age of 16, but said the charges involved only one youth. Investigators would not provide any other details on the victims.
The Courant story goes on to detail other sordid dealings in Mayor Giordano's life, sexual and otherwise. Not a pretty sight, but just the sort of thing that would be eagerly latched on by the national media -- IF he were a Democrat.
Gentle Readers, perhaps a phone call and e-mail campaign to the networks is in order.
Ask them why they're spending so much time trying to convict a Democratic Congressman who may well be innocent -- and are ignoring the far more abundant evidence of guilt in the case of the Republican mayor accused of sex with minors.
And while you've got the networks on the phone, ask them why none of them are checking this wonderful Online Journal article by Elizabeth Jordan and Oliver Dawshed, entitled "The Fifth Ace".
If you had any doubts at all as to whether the GOP rigged the Florida vote, doubt no more. Jordan and Dawshed use sound statistical methods to show the multiple irregularities in the Florida vote, and that none of these irregularities are at all likely to be the workings or pure chance.
Check it out. You'll be glad you did.
