Problem Is, Talk Radio Cares Not For Their Listeners
It's Just For The Grand Old Party, Right or Wrong
by Steve Young

Sept. 11, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES (apj.us) -- Ever since Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his plans to run for California recall governor, he has become the darling of talk radio.

The same hosts who just a few months back berated anything that walked, talked, made movies and was pro-life as Satan, now defend the faux-Terminator on every single faux pas or faux debate.

Problem is, the "He's Not What We Want But Damn If Ain't Got An 'R' After His Name" bandwagon tells you that real Republicans don't stand a chance.

Problem is, if talk radio was honest, they would spend all their time getting you and your brethren listeners to drop Arnold and get behind legitimate Conservative Tom McClintock.

Problem is, that moments after Arnold "hasta la vista'd" his candidacy on Jay Leno, talk show wunderkind Sean Hannity crowned him the slam dunk winner.

Problem is, talk radio is telling its listeners to ignore the qualified candidates a month before the election -- and back a guy who is so unprepared for the job that he ignored the first face-to-face debate between all the other candidates. Talk radio feels no problem that the candidate they say you should vote for didn't show up for the debate.

Problem is, you know damn well they wouldn't be saying that if it were Cruz Bustamente who didn't show up. For crissakes, Gray Davis, the guy they call a wimp, even showed up -- and he wasn't even going to be allowed to debate!

Oh, they give the other Republican candidates their due... just not their just due.

Tom McClintock, the now-out Peter Ueberroth, and the former Bill Simon, they say, are great candidates, all quite qualified -- but you know who's telling you not to vote for them.

Problem is, if you only voted for the guy who has a chance to win there's going to come a time when you'll have to vote for Hillary Clinton.

Tom McClintock's views seem in lock step with the grand view of the Grand Old Party, and he pulled in the major portion of the votes originally intended for dropout Bill Simon. McClintock actually showed up for the debate. Republican pundit Bruce Hershenson said that Arnold not showing up for the debate was a "good political move" because he might have made a mistake.
Huh? I thought that's one of the reason we had debates. Does the guy know what he's talking about or will he make a mistake?

Problem is, Bruce won't be able to use that spin to keep Arnold from making mistakes as Governor.

As any actor knows, if you rehearse the lines that others have written for you long enough, you will not make a mistake. Improv on the other hand -- coming up with your own words -- is much riskier. That's why you never see Arnold on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"

Problem is, some talk hosts call you -- who wish to vote for whom you believe is the best man -- losers.

Talk radio fight for you?

Get real.

Ever wonder why talk radio hasn't jumped on the energy companies for price-gauging you, the price-gauged? It's not a question of guilt. They were already found guilty by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). But they also voted 2-1 (two Republicans to one Democrat) against having the energy companies refunding the real cost back to the consumer, by the way, which you are.

Problem is, they won't, because it's never about what's best for you, it's about what's best for them, their bosses and the Republican Party.

Problem is, it's never about finding out what you think. It's always about what they tell you to think. Think not? Ever time how long Rush talks vs how long the callers do?

Problem is, in the California election, just like everything else, they're telling you that your instincts and your intellectual processes don't count.

Next thing you know they'll be calling you a Democrat.

Problem is, Arnold just about is one.

Enjoy.
