The Wit and Wisdom (NOT) of Ann Coulter

Re: Alito Must Not be Confirmed
Date: Jan. 12, 2006

At a time when the President has declared himself to be above the law, we must not confirm a justice to the Supreme Court who agrees that the President is above the law.

Sam Alito agrees with Bush that he is allowed to break the law. As Americans, We the People must take whatever actions necessary to block him or we will no longer be a free nation.

Dear members of the press: if you haven't figured out this means, then you aren't paying attention to what is going on!

Re: The Democrats Vs. the Abramoff Congress
Date: Jan. 12, 2006

What goes around comes around -- and the Democratic Party has a cornucopia of issues to use in the 2006 elections. But a din of silence and the ghost of past timidity pervade the party's precincts.

Has the donkey become the ass? To copy is the sheerest form of flattery; you can become a centralist to the issues without aping the opposition.

Europe watches in amazement at the twisting and the contortions of the present administration; the lies and innuendos, the undercover assaults and stonewalling of the current administration are Big News. It would seem that by now the nation, as a whole, would be realizing that this has all been a fraud and a hand job by the administration.

The 109th Congress, the "Abramoff Congress," has surrendered to K Street as the fifth Estate. It seems that the ethics of K Street are now the congressional norm. Acton was right. Don't forget that!

Where to begin:

First, the Commonweal must be served in issues of survival including health care, jobs, 'real education' for job survival, and civic values and literacy. In education an instructor must always teach up and not down to some mediocre level of expectancy.

Did they give breath analyzer tests to the administration and Congress before they constructed the new 'health care system'? A corporation is in business to make money -- a return to investors, a profit -- not for the care and betterment of non-investors (i.e., patients). Has it occurred to anyone that having 48 million uninsured is an open invitation to any epidemic that may happen by (i.e., bird flu)? Or that many sick people could infect the whole nation within weeks, even the wealthy 1%? "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure;" your mother told you so. Most civilized nation practice some form of preventive medicine at a much lower cost than the US.

War is war, death and destruction -- over 2000 Americans are dead along with 100,000 Iraqis, by the count of "Lancet." We compare the war to Vietnam; no one mentions Pearl Harbor. Where are the rationales of yesteryear? They're blowing in the wind, and the only green fields of summer are cemeteries. The miscomprehension of those who never served can never know.

Open your gifts and let the hammers of the carillons ring out!

PRESS RELEASE: Group Launches SamuelAlito.com
• Online campaign will Oppose Alito's Confirmation
• Activists can email Pro-Choice Republican Senators urging
  they vote against Alito
DATE: Jan. 12, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - A group of activists announced today that they will launch www.SamuelAlito.com, an online campaign to pressure pro-choice Republican Senators to vote against the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States.

The website will allow visitors to send an email to Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Senator Susan Collins of Maine, and Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island. "56 percent of Americans are pro-choice and Samuel Alito wrote a memo in 1985 that the Constitution does not protect the right to an abortion. We'll remind these Senators who they work for," said Aaron Ament, co-founder of SamuelAlito.com.

The group will pressure Alito based on his comments made in the confirmation hearings regarding Roe v. Wade. While being questions by Senator Richard Durbin, Samuel Alito refused to say that Roe v. Wade was settled law, as Chief Justice John Roberts did during his own confirmation hearings. Alito also refused to say yesterday, while being questioned by Senator Chuck Schumer, whether his views had changed since he wrote a 1985 memo that said "the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion." Information on Alito's record on a number of issues and past decisions will also be on the website.

SamuelAlito.com is an online campaign that was started by grassroots activists. The group is led by Aaron Ament, and came together to launch StopJohnBolton.com, after John Bolton was nominated by George W. Bush to be Ambassador to the United Nations. Ament recently served as the Director of Correspondence for the Clark for President campaign in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has also worked for President Clinton in Harlem, New York and as a researcher at Democracy Corps in Washington, D.C.
