Lamont Victory Will Help Me Discover My Inner-Center
by Steve Young

August 8, 2006 – HOLLYWOOD (apj.us) – If Joe Lieberman loses to Ned Lamont, it won't be, despite what media pundits want to paint it, a swing of the Democratic Party to the Left. It will be repudiation of what the talk show Lords of Loud led the liberal mainstream media™ to believe was the center.

I had always thought I was a moderate. A liberal, but not on the left. Thinking in the center. Willing to listen to both sides and make my decision.

Then one day I turned on a fella named Rush Limbaugh who told me that my way of thinking was far-left. He told us that anyone left of his thinking was "liberal." In so telling we also found out that, not only was "liberal" was a bad word, but "if you were a moderate Republican, you stand for nothing." Overnight, I had moved to the far-left.

And it was said so many times that our liberal mainstream media™ bought it lock, stock and neocon, bringing the Limbaugh, Hannity and O'Reilly rantings into the middle, by discussing their talking point repetition as real grist for political and cultural discussion. They might as well have brought Bill O'Reilly on the Today Show as a political analyst. What? Oh, they did? Point made.

Now Ned Lamont has become the poster boy for the Lords of Loud's tortured definition of far-Left. And Joe Lieberman tells us he's a liberal then goes on Hannity's show to tell Sean that he "appreciates his friendship as well as his support." If Joe doesn't get that he is appreciating the support of a man who has spent his three-hours a day misleading his listeners into thinking that the Democratic Party is the ruination of the western world; that he is appreciating the support of a man who actually said that he believes that condoms are only 10% effective; that he is appreciating the man who brought on the Swift Boaters, over and over, to beam their lies against a genuine war hero. Most odious is that he is appreciating the support of a man who has worked his entire broadcasting career to divide this country, for without that division, he has no career.

Who's next? Appreciating Josef Goebbels? Lieberman has made a deal with the devil and in selling his soul he has sold out his party, choosing friendship with those who have chosen propaganda over truth.

If Lieberman loses, it is not because the Democratic Party has moved to the far-left. It's is because the Democrats are finally taking back ownership (thank you, Ned) of the words like "liberal," "moderate" and "middle." And principally, Lieberman will have lost, because in choosing his friends, he should have known better.
