Dear Reader: Since 1988, starting on Compuserve, American Politics Journal has been publishing commentary on national political developments in the United States and issues abroad. Each week we bring you features like "Pundit Pap," Chris Gelken's views from Asia, the hilarious insights of Dave "Doctor" Gonzo, and guest columnists including David Corn. In addition we provide you links to other important pages like FEC information, and Dratt Mudge -- our own in-house scandalmonger. This month, we're asking you for your help. In ten years, we have never asked for a dime of support, but today's hourly breaking news is straining our professional and personal resources. We'd like to expand what is the oldest and only continuously running liberal opinion page on the net. Take time out to write us a small check -- just a dollar or two to help the cause. Before you do, take a look at the contents by date page. See the breadth of our commentary. Remember the smiles -- and keep in mind that our 3 million hits each year help dissuade America from buying into the Gingrinchian style of "bait-and-kill" policy and a Starr-struck attack on our Constitutional governmant. Remember too, that American Politics Journal helps keep track of a misleading media elite hoping to convince you that corporate America and the newspapers, radio and television stations they own have the right to selectively crucify whomever they please -- and tell you what you "should" be thinking! In coming months, Bill and Hillary Clinton will continue to be their targets. We have no contact with the White House. While people like Sam Donaldson and Tim Russert would have you believe we personally "take marching orders" from Paul Begala, we don't. In fact, we have never either spoken to or communicated with anyone inside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with regard to the editorial policy of this journal. To do so would be a treachery against you, our readers. Over the years we have been denounced, attacked and had writers and members of our staff threatened personally by ultra right wing nuts. And every attack has been answered. Every insult defended. So, if you think you can help -- even with fifty cents -- we'd appreciate it! We will never charge a subscription fee for American Politics Journal. Ever. Period. Nor will we take advertising, as we know we'd become beholden to those advertisers in the end. |
If you can help, you'll be helping to offset the tidal wave of antidemocratic sentiment that began the moment Democrats proposed universal health care in 1993. The very idea that such a proposal might even have a chance at fruition frightened corporate America. We understand that --- and even agree the proposals may have been too big and too fast to be successful.
But look at the result: an almost total marginalization of the minority poor seems too high a price to pay as certain very greedy people try and eliminate the current and future leaders of at least a somewhat fairer society, by any means available.
You'll see how important some of the now lost safety nets can be when the Wall Street bubble begins to bust -- a "correction" that always comes.
We will continue to speak out against the hypocricy, posturing and outright fraud that passes for politics and journalism in America.
And we are already starting to add new content and features to this site.
Our thanks in advance for your kind help. We won't let you down. Our thanks in advance for your kind help. We won't let you down.
Best regards,
