Jeff Koopersmith tells you why.

I sit in my office in Washington, DC and think about my earliest Constitutional Law lectures so long ago. And today, it looks as if the reputation of Supreme Court Justices as political hacks is — at least for the time being — untrue.

In fact, Chief Justice John Roberts — seen largely as a "conservative" and "originalist" — joined the four "liberal" Justices in a majority approving what is probably the finest law passed in the United States since the ending of prohibition.

I finished writing the first draft of this article exactly 19 minutes before the Court would deliver its opinions to the gaggles of know-it-alls I see chunked up on the steps of the Court House housing the same justices that ruled police had the right to stop Americans and others if they "suspect" they are "illegal aliens."  Only the allowing of camps at Manzanar beats that skin-crawler.

We all call it ObamaCare, thanks to the punks with no decency at Fox News led by the biggest punk of all — Roger Ailes.  Yet it is a good name for the Affordable Care Act, a program that has finally realized that American "values" even the Republican kind, cannot stand with nearly 60 million uninsured for illness.

Make no mistake: universal health care is here to stay, and there is nothing Wall Street or Main Street can do about that.  Yes, they can twist out the "illegals" and much of the poor and some of the elderly.  They can cut back on what is treatable, and pretend the Congress did not already give the Pharmaceutical companies carte blanche on "any price we want to charge".

Already the rest of the world is more than curious about the American Dream and the civil rights some of us have fought for during a lifetime - Yes us, the boomers. who the rightest wing of the right ring will most likely cheat again of their small American dream to retire in a little condo near the beach in Florida.

And now we know what the nine men and women say about having us all pay into a system so unfair, so despicable, that only a dictator would approve.

Hopefully, the four phony "conservatives" on the bench who would have moved to destroy ObamaCare will recall that Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon both tried without success to fight the medical and hospital and pharmaceutical lobbies to provide universal health care for all.

They do not bother to weigh decency along with law, and their minority decision has failed to lob a final and deadly shot at a Democracy based on law. For now, we live in a Democratic Republic based on justice and not avarice.

POSTSCRIPT from Dave "Doctor" Gonzo: How did CNN break the news?

CNN inncorrectly reports ObamaCare mandate overturned

By making sure it was 100% broken, as usual. They should fire the entire DC bureau.
